Bringing lawn bowls back to life
The Jack Ldn is a lifestyle sports brand based on this one simple idea. London's bowling greens are some of its loveliest outdoor spaces, yet too many of them sit quiet. We want to make them the place to spend a summer evening.
We're starting in South West London, close to home. Our founder, Thomas, lives locally in SW18.
The story
Bowls clubs are struggling. Many can't attract new players, greens sit underused and some clubs have closed for good. Greens near Wandsworth have already been lost.
At the same time, there's a generation of 25 to 40-year-olds who love a sociable sport (think the padel crowd) and are looking for new things to do outdoors. The Jack Ldn brings the two together: new players for the green, and a brilliant new way to spend an evening.
What an evening looks like
Picture a long summer evening on a beautifully kept green. Friends, colleagues and neighbours picking up a bowl for the first time, with experienced bowlers on hand to show them how it's done.
- Bowls first: relaxed games for complete beginners and the quietly competitive alike
- Food trucks and live music
- Glow-in-the-dark bowls as the sun goes down
- Refreshments, kept well off the green
It's friendly, welcoming and easy to join in.
For clubs and venues
A green takes years of care, and every club has its own rules and traditions. We're here to support them, not replace them. Our commitments to you:
- Flat-soled shoes only on the green
- No glasses on the green
- Experienced bowlers on hand to guide newcomers
- Your club rules, respected
- New players introduced to your club's own social sessions
- A share of the proceeds going back to the green
We bring new, younger faces and new income. You keep the green, the club and the heritage that make it special.
Starting with a cause
We're planning a charity proof-of-concept event for 2027, raising money for The Brain Tumour Charity and supporting the green that hosts us.
